Remembering Nambucca Heads

As we are not encouraged to travel at this time, due to travel restrictions because of the virus, we thought that we would share with you our previous adventure to Nambucca Heads New South Wales.

Sitting in the office one night we were discussing the forth coming Easter holidays, we decided to visit Nambucca Heads where my partner grew up  and where he still had family living there.  A place to stay was sourced and booked.  We both love the water and like walking along the beach front, so we decided to stay at a local caravan park, The White Albatross Holiday Park.  We booked a cabin with our own ensuite and a kitchen to cook our meals. Allowing us to enjoy some privacy together.

The day finally came to leave and start our adventure...………...

Nambucca is a nice place, a quiet beach side town.  Our caravan park was set beside the water front at the river mouth.  Hmm we should have taken our kayaks, that would have been fun to paddle up the river and see what was there to find.  Watching the water when the tide goes out was interesting as it was very strong and flowing fast. If you do some kayaking please check the river flow and be careful.

Near the caravan park next to the water is a walk way, called the V wall, with rocks on one side to help prevent erosion.  Before the wall became a tourist attraction, it was where ships would load and unload their cargo during the timber getting days of the 1800's.   As we strolled along the walk way there were rocks with paintings on them.  Some were painted in memory of a loved one who has passed, some were pictures with a name or date written on the side.  We would recommend that you take the time not just to take in the awesome view which is very lovely, but to read and see the paintings along the wall.  Some people have painted over other paintings which is a shame, because the ones underneath could be interesting and maybe a memory of someone. There are only so many rocks to draw on, and for some families this has been a tradition to date the years that they have been visiting the area.

Take time to visit the lookouts above the caravan park which depending on the time you visit can give you an awesome view of the ocean, and the river mouth.  Don't forget to look beyond there and see the mountains in the distance, the view is beautiful.

During our visit we not only spent time with family we drove around and visited places where my partner used to live and others where he spent time working.

A drive to nearby Macksville to enjoy a lunch at the local pub, the Nambucca Hotel,  which was quite nice and well cooked.


A walk along the river front at sunset makes for some stunning photo opportunities and a good way to exercise from eating all the food that we devoured during the day.  And if you are an avid photographer then you will love the view of the  sunrise and sunsets.

While you are in the area be sure to make a special day to travel to nearby Coffs Harbour to visit the Big Banana.  Here you will find a wide range of delicious food (like chocolate coated bananas) , watch home made lollies being made behind a glass window. The kids will love the water slide, especially if the weather is hot.  So don't forget your swimmers, towel and change of clothes.
